Bauer-Kearns Winery entered its Driftless White into the first ever International Cold Climate Wine Competition held in conjunction with the Minnesota State Fair which started on the 27^th of August  and runs through September 7^th in St. Paul Minnesota.  Wineries from 16 states participated in the event. Fifteen judges evaluated the entries on the 23^rd and 24^th of August and the results were announced the first day of the fair. Bauer-Kearns  Driftless White made from Lacrosse grapes grown on the slopes of the Platteville Mound won a Gold Medal with its entry. Bauer-Kearns opened its operation on Labor Day weekend last  year. Ted and Helen are very pleased that their first entry into competition won a gold medal; especially since it was competing with many cold hardy wines. The 2008 Driftless released last May has a very pleasant taste that some compare with a Riesling wine.

 

In celebration of this medal the winery will have a 15% discount sale on all gift items in their store during the month of September. The medal winning wine  is available in 750ml and 375ml bottles at the winery on West Mound Road near the “M” and in over 12 retail stores and restaurants in Southwest Wisconsin. If your favorite store or restaurant does not have it, ask for it.
